BEA
Like everyone else in this business, we’re headed toward the Javits Center tomorrow for Book Expo America. We’re bringing a few authors along: Timothy Schaffert (Devils in the Sugar Shop), Andrea Portes (Hick), and Pamela Thompson all have events. And we’ll be giving out bound galleys of some of the most beautiful and striking novels we’ve ever published. On Saturday, I’ll be introducing booksellers to one of those — Pam Thompson’s Every Past Thing — at a panel called the “Editors Buzz on Debut Fiction.”
Greg and I have published the first novels of such fine authors as Susan Vreeland, William Gay, Steve Yarbrough, Edward Falco, Marc Estrin, Frederick Reuss and a great many others.
(Have I yet discussed the dynamics of building a list on an author’s full career? As we reprinted Estrin’s Insect Dreams when we arrived at Unbridled, this fall we will re-release Timothy Schaffert’s first novel: The Phantom Limbs of the Rollow Sisters.)
I’m pleased to be sharing the buzz panel with Rob Weisbach, Jonathan Karp, Jordan Pavlin, and Judy Clain.
If you’ll be attending BEA, I hope you’ll stop by our booth (#5064), because I’m likely too far gone to make many of those parties anymore. If you’re not attending, the plan at the moment is for me to be blog daily from the show, beginning Thursday, though I’m probably too far gone for that, too.
